Healthy Skin is Beautiful Skin As the body’s largest organ, the skin is an outward sign of inner health. Therefore, the same poor lifestyle choices that affect out heart and lungs also damage the strength and health of our skin. Smoking, over consumption of carbonated and/or alcoholic beverages and sleep deprivation decrease the amount of blood, oxygen and nutrients supplied to the skin. The result is premature wrinkles, dryness and a dull complexion. The skin is a complex structure. It is made of various proteins together that provide strength, elasticity, fullness and structure to the skin. To maintain healthy skin, we need to continually reinforce our skins structure. Numerous topical skin care options protect, support and restore. Among them are: 1-Matrix mellaproteinase inhibitors (MMPI), 2- Peptides, 3- Broad-spectrum sunscreens, and 4-Vitamin C. 1) Matrix Mellaproteinases (MMP) are enzymes in the body that break down and destroy useless fragments of proteins. Unfortunately they can also destroy healthy and necessary proteins such as collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. Aging, UV exposure and oxidative stresses stimulate the production of matrix mellaproteinases (MMPs). Matrix mellaprotein inhibitors (MMPI) are very important to the skin since they combat the activity of the MMPs. Some of these ingredients include ascorbic acid, reversatrol and green tea, which are potent antioxidants. 2) Peptides help reduce wrinkle formation, stimulate production of collagen and elastin, increase skin thickness and even out skin texture and tone. 3) UVA and UVB radiation have been linked to various issues including premature aging, skin discoloration, skin cancer and a weakening of the immune system. People should use a broad-spectrum sun protection moisturizer with at least SPF 15 or higher. This should be an integral part of any daily skin care regime. 4) Topical Vitamin C is effective in preventing skin damage and treating compromised skin. Because Vitamin C is not produced by the body, we must use topical Vitamin C. The big problem with Vitamin C is L-ascorbic acid is the only form of Vitamin C the the body can assimilate orally and topically. L-ascorbic acid is very difficult to produce into a stable form of use. Many skin care products are using Vitamin C derivatives that the skin just cannot use. Since Vitamin C in its active form L’ascorbic acid is extremely effective in preventing skin damage, it is essential to find a product that contains a stable form of L-ascorbic acid with enough acid to do its job with maximum efficiency. Otherwise, you are wasting your money. The proteins in the skin for a complex structure that forms the foundation of the skin. Protecting and supporting it is critical to maintaining skin health, vibrancy and a youthful appearance. Products with MMPs, Peptides, Vitamin C, and Broad-spectrum sunscreens are your best choices for healthy therefore beautiful skin.
