!f you want strong, healthy nails there are important things to do/not do to your nails.

Dos

1)      Do use nail polishes or ridge fillers to help protect the nail and prevent breaking & splitting

2)      Do moisturize the cuticle area to prevent cracking and peeling which can hurt the matrix

3)      Do wear gloves to protect nails and cuticles from housework, gardening and doing dishes

4)      Do be cautious with your nails

5)      Do apply hand cream frequently

6)      Do wear sunscreen during the day on hands and cuticles to prevent sun damage (re-apply every time you wash your hands)

7)      Do meticulously clean your nail implements

8)      Do disinfect any tears/cuts to the cuticle (any drugstore anti-bacterial ointment will do

ex. Polysporin, Bacitracin)

Don’ts  

1)      Don’t use products that contain formaldehyde or toluene. They pose health risks for your nails (and the entire body)

2)      Don’t use your fingernails as “tools”

3)      Don’t soak your nails for any length of time and never use detergent or soap for soaking. Nails and cuticles that become engorged with water weaken. The soap and detergent can damage the nail and cuticle.

4)      Don’t overuse nail polish remover

5)      Don’t push cuticles back too far

6)      Don’t pull or tear hangnails

7)      Don’t ignore nail or cuticle inflammation

8)      Don’t file nails unless they are totally dry
