Q: My skin is very oily. Do I need a moisturizer?
Yes, even those with oily skin need a daytime moisturizer with minimum of SPF 15 and non-oily nighttime moisturizer. A deficiency of moisture will typically lead to an overproduction of oil which would worsen your condition.
Q: I have blemish-prone skin. Should I purchase an "oil-free" hydrator to avoid clogging pores and pimples?
Certain oils, such as those extracted from tea tree, marigold, grapefruit and borage are very beneficial in clearing breakouts and do not have the heavy feel of some oils. Using a hydrator with beneficial oils will not clog pores and can decrease redness, swelling, bacteria and blemishes.
Q: I thought that retinol was only available by prescription and made you flake and peel?
Retinoic acid- a form of vitamin A- is available by prescription only, and although effective, can cause irritation on some skin. Retinol is another form of vitamin A that is converted into retinoic acid in the skin, making it a gentler alternative for daily use. Retinol only causes flaking when used at high percentages. Well-formulated daily use retinol products will not make you peel and can induce amazing changes to the skin.
Q: Is it necessary to apply sunscreen product if I do not plan to be outdoors during peak sun hours?
Yes, sun protection should be a part of our daily regimen for all skin types and conditions. Both UVA and UVB rays are known causes of skin cancer, and although UVB rays may be more prominent during the peak sun hours, UVA rays remain constant throughout the day, and penetrate glass and most clothing.
Q: At what age is it recommended to introduce daily skin care products?
Adolescence is a great time to begin a daily skin care regimen. The introduction of a gentle cleanser, sunscreen moisturizer and nighttime hydrator will assist in maintaining healthy skin, preventing the onset of certain skin conditions and helping to form beneficial habits, such as daily SPF application.
Q: I am prone to breakouts. Should I wash my face multiple times throughout the day?
Cleansing the skin more than twice daily and/or using harsh soaps can strip the skin of its natural oils, causing it to produce more oil and increase the occurrence of breakouts. Those prone to blemishes should wash with a non-soap cleanser twice daily followed with an anti-bacterial, matte-finish hydrator day and night.
Q: I have started to develop acne as I get older. Should I use the same products to treat the breakouts that a teenager would use?
Acne is becoming a more common skin challenge in adults, and is more often caused by hormone fluctuations, menopause, and/or stress, especially in women. As skin ages, oil production slows. Therefore, it is critical to choose products to address adult acne that are not too drying. Acne varies among age groups and should be treated accordingly.
Q: Are there products and treatments that can be used to lighten freckles?
Freckles that have been present since early childhood are part of your genetics. While chemical peels and daily products will help correct freckling from sun damage, freckles that are part of your hereditary background will always resurface.
Q: Is there one product that can “fix” all my skin care needs?
As professionals, we know that unfortunately this is unrealistic. There is one ingredient however, that can effectively target acne, hyperpigmentation, and visible aging: Retinol.
Retinol has amazing benefits but the formulation is important. Try our medical skin lines, Retinol Renewal, one of the most unique retinol products on the market. It is a perfect choice for multiple skin types and concerns such as dryness, age prevention and correction, hyperpigmentation and adult acne.
