September 2008

One of life's greatest pleasures is to soak up some sun on those warm, summer days. Not only does it lift our spirits, it also provides many therapeutic benefits. Sun can actually relieve many of the side effects associated with certain health conditions, such as asthma, arthritis and some skin conditions. Although tanning gives your skin that bronze glow that many of us crave, it can also dry your skin cells, leaving it looking flaky and dull.

Skin does not exfoliate itself well because it produces very little sebum, which causes dead skin cells to solidify and stick to the surface of the healthy skin. That is why it’s necessary for us to exfoliate our skin, especially in the months following those warm, sunny days.

Exfoliation is beneficial for many reasons:

·         It allows for the healthy skin to absorb your moisturizer, allowing for necessary hydration.

·         Unclogs the pores of the skin, which will prevent breakouts.

·         Improves the appearance of your skin.

·         Encourages an increase in the production of the body’s natural collagen, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Exfoliation is also necessary to keep your skin looking healthy and vibrant as we age. Skin regenerates itself every 28 – 31 days and sometimes needs some help in doing so.  As we age the cell renewal process becomes much slower, causing the dead skin cells to outstay their welcome on the skins layer of healthy, new skin cells. Exfoliation removes the dead skin cells allows your skin to look and feel its absolute best!
